Stamped & Decorative Concrete

Stamped concrete uses special molds and tools to create patterns that mimic natural stone, brick, slate, tile, or wood. The process happens while the concrete is still wet, pressing texture and patterns into the surface. Color gets added through integral pigments or surface stains to complete the look.

You get the appearance of expensive materials without the high cost or maintenance. Natural stone patios can cost two to three times more than stamped concrete. Stone and brick also require ongoing maintenance as individual pieces shift, crack, or need replacement. Stamped concrete stays solid and level.

Stamped concrete requires more skill and timing than plain concrete work. We start with the same quality base preparation and reinforcement used for all our concrete projects. The concrete mix needs the right consistency to hold stamped patterns without smearing or losing detail.

Color application happens before stamping. We broadcast color hardener onto the surface and work it into the concrete. Release agents go on next to prevent stamps from sticking. Then we press pattern mats into the concrete, working quickly before it hardens too much to accept texture.

Timing is critical. If we stamp too early, the pattern fills in and loses definition. Wait too long and the concrete becomes too hard to accept texture. Our crew monitors concrete consistency throughout the process to achieve clean, crisp patterns that look great for years.

Keeping Your Decorative Concrete Beautiful

Proper maintenance keeps stamped concrete looking new. Sweep regularly to remove debris that can scratch the sealer. Wash with a garden hose and mild soap when needed. Avoid deicing chemicals in winter as they can damage the surface and color.

• Rinse with water monthly to prevent dirt buildup
• Reseal every 2-3 years to protect color and surface
• Clean spills promptly to prevent staining
• Avoid using deicing salts during winter months
• Use furniture pads under heavy items to prevent scratches
• Touch up sealer in high-traffic areas as needed

Sealing is the most important maintenance task. A quality sealer protects against stains, moisture, and UV fading. It also enhances color and gives stamped concrete a subtle sheen. We reseal our own work and can maintain installations done by others. Most sealers last two to three years before reapplication is needed.
